RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING NORTHWEST 2ND
AVENUE FROM NORTHWEST 36TH STREET TO
NORTHWEST 54TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
"MILTON 'BUTTERBALL' SMITH BOULEVARD";
FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO
INSTRUCT THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
PUBLIC WORKS TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Milton "Butterball" Smith was a community leader as
well as an outstanding radio disc jockey in the City of Miami for
many years before his recent untimely death; and
WHEREAS, as a radio disc jockey, he is recognized for being
a hard worker in the Black community and for setting an example
for our young people that growth through education and hard work
is the way to self -development; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Motion No. 91-347, adopted May 9, 1991,
the City Commission instructed the Administration to schedule a
hearing in connection with the proposed codesignation of
Northwest 2nd Avenue from Northwest 36th Street to Northwest 54th
Street in honor of the late Milton "Butterball" Smith; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 10761, adopted July 12, 1990, created
the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee and entrusted
said Committee with the responsibility of reviewing street

codesignation requests and making recommendations to the City
Commission in its determination as to whether or not a street
should be codesignated or a marker or plaza should be designated;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the City Commission's directive, the
Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee, at its meeting of
November 21, 1991, reviewed the Administration's proposal for
codesignation of Northwest 2nd Avenue from Northwest 36th Street
to Northwest 54th Street, Miami, Florida, as "Milton 'Butterball'
Smith Boulevard" and has recommended implementation of said
proposal subject to the conditions set forth by the Committee at
that meeting;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The City Commission hereby codesignates
Northwest 2nd Avenue from Northwest 36th Street to Northwest 54th
Street, Miami, Florida as "MILTON 'BUTTERBALL' SMITH BOULEVARD".
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby directed to
instruct the Director of Public Works to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to the Police Department, Fire, Rescue and
Inspection Services Department, Department of General Services

Administration/Solid Waste, Dade County Public Works Department
and the United States Postal Service.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

The City of Miami Street Codesignatlon Committee recommends that the
Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the
codesignation of N.W. 2 Avenue from N.W. 36th Street to N.W. 54th
Street as "Milton 'Butterball' Smith Boulevard".
BACKGROUND:
Milton Butterball Smith, a former radio disc ,Jockey for the City of
Miami, was recognized as being a hard worker In the black community
setting the example In showing our young people that growth through
education and hard work was the way to self -development. The
preaching of anti -violence was heard over the air waves for many
years, before his untimely death. Butterball dedicated much of his
life to the young aged individual.
The Southeast Music Inc. will pay for the manufacture and
Installation of the signs.
