HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-93-0744J-93-749 10/20/93 93- 744 RESOLUTION N0. A RESOLUTION APPOINTING AN INDIVIDUAL TO THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN TOURIST SITE TASK FORCE. WHEREAS, on May 18, 1993, the Metropolitan Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. R-625-93, which created the African -American Tourist Site Task Force; and WHEREAS, the African -American Tourist Site Task Force shall identify a location and develop business opportunities for the development of a tourist attraction within the African -American community; and WHEREAS, it is envisioned that a tourist site within the African American community would greatly enhance the value of positive contributions of African Americans in Dade County; and WHEREAS, the African American Tourist Site Task Force shall be comprised of the following twenty-seven (27) members: - The County Manager - Thirteen (13) appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. - One (1) appointed by the City of Miami Commission. - Two (2) appointed from the Miami Dade Visitors and Convention Bureau. - One (1) appointed from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. - Two (2) appointed from the Black Archives. Two (2) appointed from the Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce. One (1) appointed from the Beacon Council. One (1) appointed by the Dade County School Board Administration; and WHEREAS, the County Manager shall act as chairperson for the Task Force; and WHEREAS, the Task Force shall exist only until such time as it reports to the Board of County Commission, or not for more than one year from the date of creation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individual is hereby appointed as a member of the African American Tourist Site Task Force: Name: Dr. Solomon--C. Odio City Manager DATE NOV U `J�� FILE SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution Appointing an Individual to the African -American Tourist Site Task Force REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution appointing an individual to the African American Tourist Site Task Force. BACKGROUND: On May 18, 1993, the Metropolitan Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. R-625-93 which created the African -American Tourist Site Task Force. A copy of the resolution is attached and incorporated as part of this memorandum. The purpose of the Task Force is to identify a location and develop business opportunities for the development of a tourist attraction within the African -American community. It is envisioned that a tourist site within the African American community would greatly enhance the value of positive contributions of African Americans in Dade County. The Task Force, which will be chaired by the County Manager, will be composed of a total of twenty-seven (27) members, one of which is required to be chosen by the City of Miami Commission. The attached resolution provides for the appointment of an individual chosen by the City of Miami Commission to serve in this important effort. Quinn Jones III, City Attorney, dated October 22, 1991, outlining some guidelines to assist members of City Boards and Committees in complying with the Government in the Sunshine Law. Also enclosed, for informational purposes, is another memorandum from the City Attorney, dated October 22, 1991 on legal requirements concerning Conflict of Interest and Dual Office Holding circumstances which may prohibit your membership in said bodies.
