ENCLOSURES.
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission appoint nine new members to
the Commission on the Status of Women for three-year terms commencing October 14, 1993
and ending October 13, 1996, with the option of reappointment for a second three-year
term. (No member shall serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.) The appointments are

RArvnPnTTmn
On July 26, 1973 the Commission on the Status of Women was established by Resolution
No. 73-566. Its by-laws were originally adopted on December 17, 1974 by Resolution
No. 74-1373 and have been amended several times through the years. On March 3, 1989,
the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 89-217 amending the by-laws of the Commission
on the Status of Women to provide for three-year terms for members and to enlarge the
membership to twenty-five members who "should reflect the racial, ethnic, economic and
social diversity of the residents of the City of Miami".
The Commission on the Status of Women serves in an advisory capacity to the Miami City
Commission, the City Administration, the community and all agencies and persons in
Miami, Florida in respect to all matters pertaining to the status of women including,
but not limited to, discrimination against women, attitudes toward women, employment
of women, education of women and support of day care centers in the community, It makes
periodic reports and recommendations to the above -mentioned groups in respect to these
matters.
Due to a number of resignations, there are only sixteen members on the Commission at
this time which leaves vacancies for nine new members.
