HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-93-0551J-93-613 8/16/93 RESOLUTION NO. 9 3 — 551 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE ALTERNATIVES PROGRAM, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $45,000, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTE 932.7055. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 89-856, adopted September 28, 1969, authorized the supplemental funding of the Alternatives Program, in the amount of $55,000; and WHEREAS, because of the value of the Program and the need for its services, the Police Department increased allocations to $190,000 (Resolution Nos. 90-944, and 92-201); and WHEREAS, the continued need for the services of the Alternatives Program requires that an additional $45,000 be allocated to the Program; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for the above listed program have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget; and CITY COATM sSIO.N MEETING' or SEE 0 7 1003 (� Resolution No. 93" �' v i i WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the proposed expenditure complies with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover said funding are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247; and WHEREAS, any equipment/services purchases will still be required to follow established procurement procedures; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding of the Alternatives Program is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in an amounm noti -uo exceed $45,000, being hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002- 247, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statute 932.7055. The Police Department supports the efforts of those groups responsible for, and dedicated to, the education of the public in the area of drug abuse. The Alternatives Program targets those high risk high school students and chemically dependent people in need of support and counselling. Clients are referred to the program by both the courts and law enforcement agencies. This will be fourth year funding for this organization. It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution, authorizing the supplemental funding of the Alternatives Program, and allocating funding therefor, in the amount of $45,000, funding to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, be approved. 93- 551 STATE OF FLORIDA: SS COUNTY OF DADE .
