Box 23181, 8200 West Tower Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin at a cost of $43,740.80. Marquette Electronics is the manufacturer and sole distributor for the model D1500 SLP, which is a defibrillator capable of obtaining 12 Lead ECG's in the field. BACKGROUND: The Department of Fire Rescue & Inspection Services has conducted a study to determine the feasibility of 12 Lead ECG acquisition in the field and the benefits of this technology to patients treated by the Rescue Division. As a result of the study it was determined that the acquisition of 12 Lead ECG's in the field was indeed beneficial and contributed in saving and improving the quality of life of patients who sufferers from acute myocardial infarctions (heart attacks). Through the use of these machines, paramedics in the field were able to identify acute myocardial infarctions and were able to alert area hospitals, which in turn, were able to administer definitive treatment to those patients sooner. For patients suffering from this condition, "time is muscle", that is, the sooner that clot busting medication can be administered to these patients, the more muscle will be saved from the heart. This not only has the potential of actually saving the life of the patient but also of decreasing the amount of damage that a heart attack can cause. The Marquette D1500 SLP is the only defibrillator that meets the needs of the Rescue Division. Funding for this purchase is provided by the Dade County/State of Florida EMS Grant Award number 104008-280524-840.
