Dear Mr. Odio;
On behalf of the Concerned Citizens of the Edgewater Area and the Edgewater
Economic Development Corp., I request that you schedule an item in the Agenda
for the Commission Meeting of July 8, 1993. That item is the designation of NE
2nd Avc from 17th Street to 36th St. as the FILM DISTRICT OF MIAMI.
The reason for this request is that Chore are investors and private film Companies
that are operating in the Area. Last year, films produced in the area contributed
apprvximatcly $10 million to the Miami economy; the public television Channel
operates in the a►oa, turd in addition, the Downtown Master Plan has identified the
OMNI West area as an area to be developed as it filrrdrnuditt district.
Your coupelatiun u►r this matter will be greatly appreciated.

At present, there is a 12,000 sq. ft. film studio operating at 2100 NE

location for Italian television have spent approximately $10 million in
the last two years.

ADVANTAGES/BENEFITS
The Edgewater area is only minutes away from downtown Miami,
Miami Beach, Bayside Marketplace, Miami International Airport,
Miami Seaport and has great access to the Expressway system.
Film makers want to come to Florida because it gives them access to
the latest technology at affordable prices; they benefit from great
weather and they have beautiful areas to work with.
The designation and subsequent development of the District will give
the area a share of a very large industry that is real, that will create jobs
and will increase the positive images of Miami.
The FILM AND MEDIA ARTS DISTRICT will have a beneficial
impact on:
a) the design industry
b) the garment industry
c) area hotels
d) restaurants
The facilities to be developed will enhance Miami in the International
film market place because it would concentrate services available only
in first class facilities which cater to film, still photography,
commercials, industrial videos, etc.
