HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-93-0425J-93-482 6/24/93 & RESOLUTION NO. 9 425 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF YOUTH OF AMERICA, SPONSORED THROUGH THE MARTIN LUTHER KING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN THE AMOUNT OF $43,405, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS BEING IN COMPLIANCE WITH SECTION 932.7055 OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education programs not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department supports those efforts of groups exploring innovative ways to assist the youth of our community in refraining from turning to drugs and crime; and WHEREAS, the Youth of America Program, in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation, has demonstrated their commitment to the children of our community through the use of role models; and WHEREAS, this funding will be utilized for anti -drug educational sessions, thirty picnics, field trips, summer camp, equipment, and a Christmas Toy Give -Away, all to be scheduled during 1993; and CITY CODOMSION MEETING OF J01. Q 8 1993 Resolution No. 93- 425 i WHEREAS, the $43,405 to be contributed by the City of Miami has not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditure proposed complies with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the contribution are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 290949-940f NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding of Youth of America, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor, in the amount of $43,405 being allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, the statutory compliance of such expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police. Youth of America, in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation, has demonstrated a continued commitment toward the children of our city, through Role Models Activities Trips, and other related programs. The requested funding would be utilized for anti -drug educational sessions, thirty picnics, field trips, summer camp, equipment and a Christmas Toy Give -Away, all to be scheduled throughout 1993.
