HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-93-0374J--93--478 6/25/93 RESOLUTION NO. •� A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEMOLITION OF THE VIRRICK GYM AND PARKS AND RECREATION BUILDING ("COMPLEX"), LOCATED AT 2600 SOUTH BAYSHORE DRIVE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, WHICH WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BY HURRICANE ANDREW; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE, ACCEPT, AND EVALUATE BIDS TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR THE DEMOLITION OF THE COMPLEX; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO AWARD THE BID TO THE LOWEST RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER FOR SAID SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY AGREEMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, AND DIRECT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE THE NECESSARY PURCHASE ORDER(S) FOR SAID SERVICES; FUNDS THEREFOR TO BE REIMBURSED FROM PENDING INSURANCE CLAIMS FOR SAID SERVICES. WHEREAS, due to the devastating effeots of Hurricane Andrew on August 24, 3.992, the Virrick Gym and Parks and Recreation Building ("Complex"), located at 2600 South Bayshore Drive, Miami, Florida, was damaged so severely that the Complex is no longer safe for use; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to demolish the Complex to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, funds for said demolition will, be available from pending insurance claims; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CY'd'Y COKWS9101f MEETING OF JUN 2 9 1993 Resolution No. 93- "374 Section 1. The recitals and. findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The demolition of the Complex which was severely damaged by Iiurricane Andrew is hereby authorized. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to advertise, accept, and evaluate bids to provide services for the demolition of the Complex. Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award the bid to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for said services, to execute the necessary agreements, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney,`/ and direct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue the necessary purchase order(s), for said services, with funds therefor for said demolition to be reimbursed from pending insurance claims. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. -2- 93- 4'74 m PASSED AND ADOPTED this 29t ATT.
