BACKGROUND: The police department reviewed the bids submitted for the lease of 149 pagers. American Paging was the lowest bidder to meet the department's requirements and specifications. None of the three vendors submitting bids are located within the City of Miami. Dispatch Paging is a minority vendor, however, their unit cost is $4.70 more per month than American, with a $75.00 lost pager fee and $2.00 per month for insurance. American's cost includes insurance and also replacement batteries. 'It is, therefore, recommended that the bid of American Paging, for the lease of 149 pagers, be accepted.
