Resolution Funding the
Guardian Ad Litem Program
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution funding the
Guardian Ad Litem Program, and allocating funds therefor from the
Law Enforcement Trust Fund, in an amount not to exceed $18,000,
be approved.
The Police Department supports the efforts of those groups
committed to the protection of the children in our society. Many
children find that they are first abused or neglected by parents
and then are abused by an overcrowded, underfunded social service
system. The Guardian Ad Litem Program offers a ray of hope to
these children through volunteers who represent them in the
courts, with H.R.S. and other social service agencies. Funding
is also being sought from Metropolitan Dade County, and
commitments have been received from the Dade Community
Foundation, and the Administrative Office of the Courts.
It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the
funding of the Guardian Ad Litem Program, and allocating funds
therefor in the amount of $18,000, funding to be provided from
the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code
029002-247, be approved.
