Odios City Manager arcxos FEB -11993 Resolution Supporting The Efficacy Institute, Inc. It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution funding The Efficacy institute, Inc., in the amount of $25,000, funding to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, be approved. The Police .Department supports the efforts of organizations established to assist in the development of our children. The Efficacy Institute, Inc., provides an excellent intervention program for at risk students.. The Dade County Public Schools, in conjunction with Miami Dade Community College, would like to implement this program in a selected middle school in -the Northwestern feeder pattern. The Efficacy Institute, Inc., is a nonprofit organisation committed to the concept that education is a central factor in preparing minority youngsters to lead responsible, meaningful, and fulfilling lives. It also sees education as essential to the solution of many problems in inner-city communities throughout the nation. The program addresses basic problems that affect the intellectual development of minority children. !Among these are low expectations, grouping by ability, lack of support within peer groups, homes, and communities, inadequate preparation in basic skill areas, a lack of understanding of the requirements for success, and the lack of understanding of the importance of academic excellence. The funding sought will be utilised for the Efficacy Immersion liodel, which includes a five day, two part seminar, instructional saterials for educators, and instructor expenses. It is, therefore, recoannended that the Resolution authorising the funding of the Efficacy Institute, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $25,000, funding to be from the Law Enforcement Trust fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, be approved. 93- 292 Al f .n i AFFIbAVlV I, Calvin Ross, Chief of Police, City of Miami, do hereby certify that this request for expenditure from the City of Miami Low Enforcement gust Fend, for the support of The Ef f s ca=„ t.,U t tat+ ter_ «dguflt not to ,exewed 5251000, complies with the Provisions of Section 932.704, Florida Statutes.
