A RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING SOUTHWEST 7TH
STREET FROM SOUTHWEST 22ND AVENUE TO
SOUTHWEST 27TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
"CARLOS B. FERNANDEZ WAY"; FURTHER DIRECTING
THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE DIRECTOR OF
PUBLIC WORKS TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Carlos B. Fernandez was the first Hispania
Municipal Judge of the City of Miami from the years 1958 through
1972; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Dade County Commissioners, at its
meeting of May 5, 1992, adopted Resolution No. 837-92
recommending that the City of Miami honor Carlos B. Fernandez by
oodesignating Southwest 7th Street from Southwest 22nd Avenue to
Southwest 27th Avenue, Miami, Florida, as Carlos B. Fernandez
Way; and
WHEREAS, all expenses related to said codesignation are to
be borne by the Metropolitan Dade County Department of Public
Works; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission has determined that said
codesignation in in the best interest of the general welfare of
the City of Miami and its inhabitants;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:

Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and inoorporated herein as if Fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby oodesignates
Southwest 7th Street from Southwest 22nd Avenue to Southwest 27th
Avenue, Miami, Florida, as "CARLOS B. FERNANDEZ WAY".
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby direoted to
instruct the Director of Public Works to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to the Dade County Board of County Commissioners, the
City of Miami Police Department, Department of Fire, Rescue and
Inspection Services, the Department of General Services
Administration/Solid Waste, the Dade County Public Works
Department and the United States Postal Service.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

and 27th Avenue as "Carlos
S. Fernandez stay"
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
enclosed Resolution to codesignate Southwest 7th Street from
Southwest 22nd Avenue to Southwest 27th Avenue as "Carlos B.
Fernandez Way".
BACKGROUND:
Carlos B. Fernandez was the first Hispanic Municipal Judge of the
City of Miami for the years 1958 through 1972. Mr. Fernandez has
served as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Young
Democratic Club and Latin American Democratic Club of Dade
County.
The Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 637-92
recommending the approval of this codesignation at its meeting of
May 5, 1992, and urges the City of Miami Commission tO Join in
this act of honoring Carlos B. Fernandez through dual
designation.
MOTE: All expenses are to be borne by the Metro Dade County
Department of Public Works.
