INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission A;Ke FROM : Cesar H. Odio 0/ City Manager 1 DATE MAR - 21993 FILE : SUBJECT : Resolution to Contract for the Removable of Pesticides Stored at REFERENCESBobby Madura Stadium ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that a resolution be approved requesting Metropolitan Dade County through its Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), on behalf of the City of Miami, to contract for the packaging, transportation and disposal of 31 drums of pesticides and other related materials being stored at Bobby Maduro Baseball Stadium. The funds are available from Special Projects and Accounts No. 912002/340. For several years the Department of Parks and Recreation have stored unused pesticides and other related materials, used for routine maintenance at Bobby Maduro Baseball Stadium. Because of the corrosive nature of the material stored, corrosion has begun in the storage vessels. DERM has found the unstable nature of the pesticides and brought it to our attention. If they are not removed and disposed of, they can become a contaminate and would have to be removed under emergency conditions. This being the case, places the City in the position of being fined, not to mention contaminating the atmosphere and the ground. These pesticides must be packaged, transported and disposed of by a professional firm specializing in this type of activity. An estimate to complete this task is not to exceed $20,500.00 dollars.
