HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-93-0112J-93-162 2/9/93 RESOLUTION NO 9 3 - 112 A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE GREAT COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE RACE TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE CLUB, INC. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MIAMI WHEELERS BICYCLE CLUB, INC. ON MARCH 27 AND 28, 1993; AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF DESIGNATED STREETS TO THROUGH VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES; WAIVING THE REQUIREMENT OF ORDINANCE NO. 10764 PURSUANT TO WHICH THE ORGANIZERS OF SAID EVENT MUST SUBMIT THE SPECIAL EVENTS APPLICATION TO THE CITY AT LEAST ONE HUNDRED TWENTY (120) DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE EVENT; CONDITIONED UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage during the Great Coconut Grove Bicycle Race, to be conducted by the Great Coconut Grove Bicycle Club, Inc. in conjunction with the Miami Wheelers Bicycle Club, Inc., the following streets are hereby closed to through vehicular traffic during the dates and hours specified below: Saturday, March 27, 1993 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. South Miami Avenue from Seventeenth Road to Twenty -Third Road. CITY COMi ssl MEETING OF FEB 0 9 1%3 I. 93- 112 Sunday, March 28, 1993 from 7:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. _ Grand Avenue from Mary Street to Commodore Plaza. Commodore Plaza from Grand Avenue to Main Highway. Main Highway from Charles Avenue to McFarlane Road, McFarlane Road from Main Highway to South Bayshore Drive. South Bayshore Drive from McFarlane Road to Mary Street. Mary Street from South Bayshore Drive to Oak Avenue. Included in the herein closure are all streets, avenues, alleys, ways and thoroughfares which intersect the enumerated areas delineated in this Section. Section 2. The closing of such streets is subject to State approval and issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and -= Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. The permit from the Department of Police is to be issued upon the full approval of the Chief of Police after giving all due consideration to the _ safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City Manager's — judgement predicated upon all factors set forth herein. Section 3. The requirement of ordinance No. 10764 pursuant - to which the organizers of said event must submit the Special Events Application to the City at least one hundred twenty (120) days prior to the date of the event is hereby waived. - Section 4. The herein approvals and authorizations are hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for all necessary - costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said = 93- 112 - 2 - .6 w event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. Box 698 Miami, Florida 331.33 (305) 285-9499 January 24, 1993 Mr. Cesar Odio, City Manager City of Miami 3500 Pan.American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Mr. Odio: The Coconut Grove Bicycle Club, Inc., a not -for -profit Florida Corporation, in conjunction with The Miami Wheelers Bicycle Club, Inc., wish to hold the Great Coconut Grove Bicycle Race on Saturday and Sunday, March 27th and 28th, 1992. As usual, we will meet with the City of Miami Police Department, the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce, and all other appropriate groups and agencies in the immediate future. I respectfully request that our application for the necessary street closures be included in an upcoming City Commission agenda. We also request a waiver of the provision of Ordinance #10784 ("...creating a Coconut Grove Special Events District...") calling for the submission of.our application 120 days prior.to the date of the. event. We plan no changes from the past several years in terms of times or street closure locations.
