RESOLUTION NO. 9 3 — 81
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE USE OF CERTAIN
STREETS AND THOROUGHFARES IN COCONUT GROVE
DURING THE MERCY HOSPITAL HEALTH RUN 5-MILE
RACE TO BE CONDUCTED BY FOOT WORKS RACE
MANAGEMENT ON MARCH 20, 1993, BETWEEN THE
HOURS OF 8:00 A.M. AND 10:00 A.M., SUBJECT TO
THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF
POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION
SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE STREETS TO BE
UTILIZED AS PART OF THE RACE COURSE;
CONDITIONING ALL APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS
HEREIN UPON ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL
NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND FEES
ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING
INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT
AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS
DESIGNEE.
WHEREAS, Foot Works Race Management will conduct the Mercy
Hospital Health Run on Saturday, March 20, 1993; and
j WHEREAS, Foot Works Race Management has requested the use o€
3i certain streets in Coconut Grove to conduct. the aforementioned
event between the'hours of 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY

Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set ;Forth in this
Section.
Section 2.
The use of certain streets
and
thoroughfares
in Coconut Grove
on March 20, 1993 between the
hours
of 8:00 A.M.
and 10:00 A.M. during the Mercy Hospital Health Run, a 5-Mile
race to be conducted by Foot Works Race Management, is hereby
authorized.
Section 3. The herein authorizations are hereby
conditioned upon the organizers obtaining the necessary permits
from the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and inspection
Services.
Section 4. The Police Department is hereby authorized to
control traffic flow on certain streets in the North Coconut
Grove area to be utilized as part of the race course, as follows;
Alatka Street, Hay Heights Drive,
Tigertail Avenue, Shore Drive,
Lincoln Avenue and other local
streets near Mercy Hospital.
Section 5. The herein authorizations are hereby
conditioned upon the organizers paying for the necessary costs of
City services and fees associated with said event and obtaining
insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the
City Manager or his designee.

Section 6. This Resolution shall. become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution authorizing the use of certain streets in the
Coconut Grove area in connection with the Mercy Health Run, a 5-
Mile Race to be conducted by foot Works Race Management March 20,
1993, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., subject to the
issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue
and Inspection Services, This authorization is further conditioned
upon the organizers paying for the cost of City services and
subject to the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City
in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Community Development has prepared the
appropriate legislation for the above mentioned authorization in
connection with the Mercy Health Run, a 5--Mile Race to be conducted
by Foot 'Works Race Management on March 20, 1993.
This event is a well organized annual event. The event organizers
have met with the Police Department to design the race course so
that major thoroughfares remain partially open to vehicular
traffic, thereby minimizing traffic disruption in the area of the
race.
