A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE USE OF STREETS AND
THOROUGHFARES DURING THE JIOSE MARTI PARADE
i TO BE CONDUCTED BY BIPRISA—/ ON JANUARY 28,
1993, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00 A.M. AND 1:00
P.M., SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY
THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE AND FIRE, RESCUE
AND INSPECTION SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL TRAFFIC FLOW ON
THE STREETS TO BE UTILIZED AS PART OF THE
PARADE ROUTE; FURTHER CONDITIONED UPON
ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL NECESSARY COSTS OF
CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES AND SUBJECT
TO THE ORGANIZERS OBTAINING INSURANCE TO
PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED
BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE.
WHEREAS, BIPRISA will conduct the Jose Marti Parade on
Thursday, January 28, 1993; and
WHEREAS, BIPRISA has requested the use of certain streets to
conduct the aforementioned event between the hours of 8:00 A.M.
and 1:00 P.M.;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1.. The use of certain streets and thoroughfares in
the City of Miami on January 28, 1993, between the hours of 8:00
A.M. and 1:00 P.M. during the Jose Marti Parade to be conducted
by BRPRISA, is hereby approved.

Section 2. The 'herein approval is hereby conditioned upon
the organizers obtaining the necessary permits from the
Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services.
Section 3. The Police Department is hereby authorized to
control traffic flow on certain streets in the City of Miami to
be utilized as part of the Parade route._ as follows:
Commencing in the intersection of Southwest
Thirteenth Avenue and Southwest Eighth
Street, proceeding East to Southwest Fifth
Avenue, North on Southwest Fifth Avenue to
Southwest Fifth Street, and East on Southwest
Fifth Street to Jose Marti Park.
Section 4. The herein authorizations are hereby conditioned
upon the organizers paying for the necessary costs of City
services and applicable fees associated with said event and
obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as
prescribed by the City Manager or his designee.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of January 1993.

RECOMMENDATION: —
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution authorizing the use of certain streets in
connection with the XV Jose Marti Parade to be conducted by BIPRISA,
a Bilingual Private Schools Association, on Thursday, January 28,
1993, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M., subject to the
_ issuance of permits by the Departments of Police and Fire, Rescue and
Inspection Services. This authorization is further conditioned upon
the organizers paying for the cost of City services and subject to
the organizers obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount
as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee.
BACKGROUND:
=:fir As per the attached request, we have prepared the appropriate
legislation for the above ;mentioned authorization in connection with
the Jose Marti Parade to be conducted by BIPRISA on Thursday, January
- 28, 1993.
This is a well -organized annual event. The event organizers have
fi contacted the Police Department to design the parade course so that _
major thoroughfares remain partially open to vehicular traffic,
thereby minimizing traffic disruption in the area of the parade. -
