At the request of Commissioner Miller J. Dawkins, and subsequent
to Assistant City Manager Herb Bailey's visit to Varna, Bulgaria,
it is respectfully recommended that the City Commission discuss
the possibility of adopting said city in Eastern Europe as a
sister city of the City of Miami.
This relationship is supported by the city of Varna and the Open
Society Fund in Bulgaria, as well as by the Bulgarian -American
Association in Miami.
Sister Cities International has also advised us that they see no
reason why they would not recognize a linkage between Miami and
Varna, since the city of Varna has now cancelled the affiliation
they previously had with Jackson, Mississippi.
