Re: Super Bowl Assistance
The purpose of this letter is to formalize the request to the City of Miami for
assistance in the Hosting of Super Bowl XXIX. The Host Committee very
much appreciates the support of the City in our efforts to set a new standard in
Hosting the 1995 Super Bowl.
The Host Committee, as you are aware, is the Local Private Non -Profit
Organizing Committee charged with planning, developing, financing and
implementing the many community activities surrounding the Super Bowl. It is
a Tri-County effort including Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach
County. It encompasses a broad scope of activities ranging from transportation
to media relations to special events to minority business development. The Host
Committee has established 22 separate committees to implement these
activities.
The importance of the Super Bowl to our community is dramatic and
significant. Over 750,000,000 people around the world will view the Game on
television, including an estimated 140,000,000 Americans. Over 2,500
accredited members of the media, including approximately 600 international
journalists, will be in South Florida. The corporate leadership of America, those
persons who make decisions on conventions, meetings and business relocation,
will all be in our community. The immediate economic impact on our
community exceeds S 150,000.000.
94- 885
This represents a tremendous opportunity. The City of Miami, given its
importance and strategic location, is the hub of many Super Bowl activities.
Included among these are:
o NFL Headquarters - The NFL Headquarters will be located at the
Crowne Plaza/Omni/Marriott Biscayne Bay complex. This will make
downtown Miami the corporate and league Hub during the Super Bowl.
o NFL Media Center - The NFL Media Center will be located in the
Omni Mall complex on the top floor of the "Jordan Marsh" building, This
will be the home for the 2,500 accredited members of the media that will be
0 ^q in our community for an entire week. This represents an unprecedented
1 "` v opportunity for positive media exposure.
c, + -., o Coca-Cola/Host Committee Touchdown Town at Bayfront Park -
10 The Coca-Cola Touchdown Town is one of the premier events of Super
Bowl. Working with the City and the Host Committee this event will take
u place in Bayfront Park. A 3 - 4 day event this will attract tens of thousands
of fans to downtown Miami.
u
o Taste of the NFL - This event, also sponsored by Coca-Cola, is one of
the foremost charitable activities of the Super Bowl. Proceeds from the
event, estimated at over $200,000, will go to local and national hunger
- relief. The event will take place at the Inter Continental Hotel.
o International Media Luncheon - Plans are being finalized to Host a
special luncheon for the international media at the Port of Miami aboard
one of our finest cruise ships.
o National & International Television Orginations - Plans are underway
to originate a number of national and international television broadcasts
from Miami. This includes morning news shows, sportscasts, etc.
o Concerts and Special Events - Every major concert venue and special
event location is booked for Super Bowl. This includes the Bayfront Park
Amphitheater, Orange Bowl, Miami Arena, Knight Center, Peacock Park,
etc. There will be an incredible potpourri of events and activities.
The Host Committee is in need of financial assistance from the City in order to
undertake and maximize these opportunities. Specifically the Host Committee is
requesting funding in the amount of $50,000 to help defray transportation,
media and media marketing expenses.

Finally, on a more general note, we wanted to reiterate the need for a high level
of general support during Super Bowl Week. As is the tradition in other Super
Bowl Cities, high levels of public sector and security presence are the norm. All
of the other communities in South Florida are committed to this concept and
we know we can count on the City of Miami.
Once again. thank you for your support. We are committed to making the
Super Bowl an outstanding event for our community.
Sincerely,
Charles D. Scurr
