BACKGROUND: The Police Department instituted a pilot program directed at the reduction of violent tourist crimes. By establishing two Tourist Information Centers near the expressways, the Department has been diverting those tourists unfamiliar with the area out of potentially dangerous situations. In order to continue the program, until such time as permanent arrangements can be made, the Department must lease several pieces of equipment. Establishing formal bids at this time would be inefficient, since any permanent structures would include all of these items. It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution ratifying the City Manager's emergency action and authorizing the expenditure of $50,000 for the lease of this equipment, be approved. Funding was provided from the Police Department General Operating Budget, Index Code 290201-610 (appx. $3,680/month), 290201-510 (appx. $2,000/month). 94- 883 /0/19/4f , =N1 1i1 ;tSUWtI UINI I lU`LU-J!
