INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM

of the City Commission
SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution: Anti -Drug

ENCLOSURES:
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the attached Resolution
funding the Anti -Drug Education Program, in the amount of
$85,000, be approved.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department supports the efforts of those groups
responsible for, and dedicated to, the education of the public in
the area of drug abuse. Increasingly, the Department is being
asked to assist in the funding of these programs and has done so
quite frequently. The Department takes an affirmative role in
the education of our community in the harms associated with drug
abuse.
The Anti -Drug Education Program encompasses all of those
activities directed at the education of citizens and
predominantly the youth of our community in the effects of drug
abuse. Many avenues have been used to reach as wide an audience
as possible, including: advertisement campaigns, utilizing all
types of media, training classes and seminars, sports programs,
and others. All have a common goal: to educate the public about
the dangers of substance abuse.
It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution funding the
Anti -Drug Education Program, in the amount of $85,000, be
approved. Funding will be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund,
Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247.
