A RESOLUTION RATIFYING, APPROVIl4G AND CC(NFIRmn G THE
ACTIONS OF THE CITY MANAGER IN DEICLAR:TNG THE
REPLACEMENT OF THE ROOFS AT FIRE STATIONS NO. 2 AND
NO. 5 TO BE AN EMERGENCY AND IN AWARDING A CONTRACT TO
J. VALIENTE, INC., UNDER, BID HA94-3R, PACKAGE G, IN
THE PROPOSED AMOUNT OF $51,854.00 FOR SAID
REPLACEMENTS; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENT PROD= NO. 313018, ENTITLED "RENOVATICN
OF FIRE STATIONS AND OLD DRILL TOWER", AS PREVIOUSLY
APPROPRIATED BY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PX> EGTS ORDINANCE
NO. 11139, AS AMENDED, TO COVER THE CONTRACT COSTS.
WHEREAS, the Department of Fire -Rescue had two fire stations badly in
need of roof replacement, and in the interest of expediency they were
recommended to be included in a roofing bid proposal at the same time as other
fire station roofs that were part of Hurricane Andrew damage (Bid HA94-3R,
Package G); and
WHEREAS, the Hurricane Andrew Recovery Task Force Evaluation Committee
recommended that the contracts for all roof repairs be awarded to J. Valiente,
Inc., 1780 Northwest 7th Street, Miami, Florida, as the lowest responsible and
responsive bidder, including the amount of $13,352 for Fire Station No. 2 and
$38,502 for Fire Station No.5; and
WHEREAS, the funds for the roof replacements at these two fire stations
are available in Capital Improvement Project No. 313018, entitled. "Renovation
of Fire Stations and Old Dr111 Tower"; and
WHEREAS, due to the critical need of replacing these roofs arxd the
timeliness of other fire station roof work being bid by the City, an emergency

finding was made by the City Manager to proceed with the award and repair of
both fire station roofs;
NOW, THERMRE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMaSSICN OF THE CITY OF MTAmi,
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to
this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated
herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Seotion 2. The actions of the City Manager in declaring the
replacement of the roofs at Fire Stations No. 2 and No. 5 to be an emergency
and in awarding a contract to J. Valiente, Inc., under Bid HA94-3R, Package G,
in the proposed amount of $51,854.00 for said replacements are hereby
ratified., approved and confirmed., with funds therefor hereby allocated, from
Capital Improvement Project No. 313018, entitled "Renovation of Fire Stations
and Old Drive Tower", as previously appropriated by Capital. Improvement
Projects Ordikvice No. 11139, as amended, to cover said contract costs.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption.

ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt a
resolution approving, ratifying and confirming the emergency
action of the City Manager in declaring a critical need for
replacing the roofs of Fire Stations #2 and #5 and allowing, in
the interest of expediency, the City to proceed with the award
of contract to J. Valiente, Inc. under Bid HA94-3R, Package G,
with other fire station roofs that were part of Hurricane Andrew
damage.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Fire -Rescue had two fire stations badly in need
of roof replacement. In the interest of expediency, they were
included in a roofing bid proposal at the same time as., roofs of
other fire stations which were part of hurricane damage.
The Hurricane Andrew Recovery Task Force Evaluation Committee
recommended that the job for all roofs be awarded to J. Valiente,
Inc., 1780 N.W. 7th Street, Miami, FL 33125, as the lowest
responsible and responsive bid, including the following amounts
for these two fire stations:
Fire Station #2 $13,352
Fire Station #5 38,502
Total $51,854
The City Manager was asked to allow the City to proceed with the
award and repair of these two fire station roofs in conjunction
with the others, with funds for the work at the two subject fire
stations being provided in the Department of Fire -Rescue Capital
Improvement Project Account 313018, Renovation of Fire Stations &
Old Drill Tower.
