HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-94-0725J-94-852 10/6/94 RESOLUTION NO. 94- 725 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF MIAMI'S "POP WARNER FOOTBUL PROGRAM," IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $5,000 AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS BEING IN COMPLIANCE WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTE 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education programs not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami, along with the rest of the nation, has experienced a major increase in juvenile delinquency and gang related activity; and WHEREAS, underprivileged children often become involved with these types of activities, due mainly to lack of guidance and afterschool programs; and WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club of Miami has served youth for the past 50 years, in an effort to guide children to become responsible adults; and WHEREAS, the "Pop Warner Football Program" is designed to provide the underprivileged youth of the West Coconut Grove Community with afterschool sports activities; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has certified that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended; and CITY COMESSION MEET?NG OF 0 C T 2 7 1.q94 Revaudon No. 94- 725 WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIANI, FIARIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding of the Boys and Girls Club of Miami' s "Pop Warner Football Program", in an amount not to exceed $5,000, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as being in compliance with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended. BACKGROUND: The Boys and Girls Club of Miami has recently started a new program called "Pop Warner Football Program" affecting underprivileged children in West Coconut Grove at Armbrister Park. This program is designed to provide the neighborhood children access to activities which will eventually build responsible citizens of tomorrow. This is just one of the numerous programs the Boys and Girls Club plans to provide. Their ultimate goal is to operate a complete facility providing basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, homework assistance and tutoring programs. However, these programs are still in the planning stages. It is, therefore, recommended that the Resolution authorizing the funding of the Boys and Girls Club of Miami's "Pop Warner Football Program," in an amount not to exceed $5,000 be adopted. The funding source is the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Code No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247.
