ENCLOSURES:
r
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution authorizing the
commitment of funds to Agape's Women's Home, of the South Florida
Jail Ministries, in an amount not to exceed $17,000, from the Law
Enforcement Trust Fund, be approved.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department recognizes that the underlying cause of
much of the crime committed today is alcohol and substance abuse.
The Department also recognizes that by treating these problems at
the source there may be a correlative decrease in crime. One of
the means available for the treatment of first time, nonviolent
offenders, is the Agape's Women's Home of the South Florida Jail
Ministries. This residential drug rehabilitation program
services women from the City of Miami as well as Dade County
res .dents . _
It .s, therefore, recommended that a Resolution authorizing the
conkt:titment of funds to the Agape's Women's Home of the South
Flc.;ida Jail Ministries, in an amount not to exceed $17,000, be
approved. Funding is to be from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund,
Project No. 69,0001, Index Code No. 029002-247.
