HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-94-0686J-94-S74 9/22/94 RESOLUTION NO. 94- 686 A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,000 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF MIAMI COMMITTEE ON BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENT, SUBJECT TO THE COMMITTEE ON BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENT (1) HOLDING ALL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI CITY LIMITS, AND (2) COMPLYING WITH ALL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS AS MAY BE PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. An amount not to exceed $15,000 is hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts in. support of the City of Miami Committee on Beautification and Environment, subject to the Committee on Beautification and Environment (1) holding all events and activities within the City of Miami city limits, and (2) complying with all conditions and limitations as may be prescribed by the City of Miami. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. E, LEE Assistant City Manager 250-5322 I believe that $5,000 - $7,000 is needed to defray some of the administrative expenses and requirements of the Committee. Presently, I am personally doing things like typing correspondence, doing the Committee's mailings, and handling most of its telephone communications, while I am also leading the Committee in tree planting and other activities. I spent between 800- 1,000 hours on Committee business during the last year, and I cannot continue to spend as much time tending to day-to-day administrative functions. Finally, if same is not addressed in some earlier Commission meeting, I would like to discuss the residency requirement as it relates to this Committee. Certain of our directors such as Kathy Gaubatz, Ruth Kassewitz, Helen Eidson and others who have served this Committee for many, many years, do not meet the residency requirement for Miami committees and boards. However, given that this is a non -political, volunteer group that is pursuing projects to improve our City, I believe that we should welcome and encourage anyone who is willing to cor+xnit the time and effort to doing so without regard to r:, idency.
