HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-94-0644T J-94-777 9/8/94 RESOLUTION NO. 9 in A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE DADE COUNTY ALLIANCE AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WALK-A-THON AND RALLY TO BE HELD AT THE AT&T AMPHITHEATER AT BAYFRONT PARK AND VICINITY BY THE DADE COUNTY ALLIANCE AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1994; WAIVING ALL WAIVABLE FEES AND COSTS RELATED TO SAID EVENT; SAID WAIVER CONDITIONED UPON THE ORGANIZERS PAYING FOR ALL OTHER COSTS.OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT AND OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. All waivable fees and costs related to the Dade County Alliance Against Domestic Violence Walk-a-thon and Rally to be held at the AT&T Amphitheater at Bayfront Park and vicinity by the Dade County Alliance Against Domestic Violence on Saturday, October 15, 1994, are hereby waived. Section 2. The herein waiver is hereby conditioned upon the organizers paying for all other costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said event and obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. One of the primary goals of the alliance is to keep the issue of domestic violence on the forefront. Therefore, the Dade County A111ance Against Domestic V9.010ncc ie sponsoring a Domestic Violence Awareness Walk-a-thon & Relly during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event has been scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 1994 at 9:00 a.m. at the A T & T Amphitheater at Bayfront Park, This year we arts nc,t walking for a fundraiser but to keep this particular social issue upfront in the consciousness of the community. In our attempt to keep this issue on the forefront and increase the awareness, we have asked all twenty-seven (27) Law Enforcement Agenciee of Dade County to jo.irl us in this effort. We will be walking in memory of the fallen victims. -victims who have dies as a result of domestic violence incidents from each csgency's jurlodlcLiusi. Thu goals Of this Wd1kfRal1y are to focus the community on the dange7re associatod with this social problem, the available resources and sarvlr.Rs in nad+e County and reinforcing a positive law enforcement image within the community in addressing the issue of domestic violence. As Vice Chair of the Alliance, I am coordinating this effort. Sgt. Ellyn O'Riordan of the Hialeah Police Department has agreed to co-chair this event with me. Letters ware sent to all Chiefs of police of the twenty-seven (27) police municipalities in lade County requesting their participation, commitment and support. 14 v i To date, we have had mvveral meetings and have found a positive raponRe from late onforcomont with over halt' mending { representatives. i The theme we will be using is the one from last year's Liz j Claiborne March Rally Event, "Don't vle For Love". We will also incorporate the current National theme of "There's No Excuse for Domestic Violence". As a finale of our event, we are planning a memorial for the victims who have been killed as a result of domestic violence in each of tho 27 municipralitieu. Therefore, we are requesting to be placed can the City of Miami Commission Meeting Agenda on September 8, 1994. The purpose to to request that all reea and costs related to our event at The Rayfr.ont Park Amphitheater on October 25, 1994 be waived. We also request that this event be fully sponsored by The City of Miami since this event will be occurring in your city. The city of Miami Police Department is fully committed to thin event and has been working diligently with us. This event, though similiar to t_ha Pig Bowl where all police agencies got together for a fundraiser, is the first time that law enforcement has joined with Community agencies to advocate for victims of domestic violence. We want you to be a pert of this historical effort by being a sponsor for thle worthwhile cause.
