HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-94-0526r J-94-540 7/ 14/94 9 4 — .526 RESOLUTION N0. _ A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE MIAMI POLICE COPS AND KIDS ATHLETIC DRUG DIVERSIONARY PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $133,079; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690001, INDEX CODE 029002- 247, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS BEING IN COMPLIANCE WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTE 932.7055. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement and anti -drug education programs not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami, along with the rest of the nation, has experienced a major increase in drug sales, purchases and use; and WHEREAS, the Overtown, Wynwood, Coconut Grove, and Little Havana areas have seen an upsurge of juvenile and gang related activity; and WHEREAS, the Miami Police Cops and Kids Athletic Drug Diversionary Program is designed to place youths in a constructive atmosphere where they can achieve high goals, develop self-esteem and find alternatives to drug use; and WHEREAS, sworn police officers and public service aides will not be dedicated to this program; and CITY COF�UTISSIOX or Resolution No. 94- 526 WHEREAS, the Miami Police Cops and Kids Athletic Drug Diversionary Program will require funding to cover necessary expenses incurred by the program; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has certified that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended; and i WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding, not to exceed $133,079, is hereby authorized from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-247, to cover necessary expenses for the operation of the Miami Police Cops and Kids Athletic Drug Diversionary Program, such expenditure having been I certified by the Chief of Police as being in compliance with j Florida State Statute 932.7055.
