SUBJECT Anderson v. City of Miami, et al
FROM A. nn,J nes, III Final Payment of Fine Jacobson
City Atto ey REFERENCES Schwartz Nash & Block
ENCLOSURES Attorneys' Fees
The law firm of Fine Jacobson Schwartz Nash & Block (Fine
Jacobson) was engaged in March, 1992 to represent the City of
Miami, Jorge L. Fernandez and myself in connection with
litigation wherein Mr. Anderson sought damages as a result of the
City not providing him with private, legal counsel at his choosing
and at the City's expense.
This case was tried before The Honorable Michael Moore in
November, 1993 which resulted in a jury award of $2,000,000.00
dollars against the City and $500,000.00 in punitive damages
against Jorge L. Fernandez.
The Commission had only authorized expenditures for pretrial
and discovery phases as of November, 1993. The attached
resolution seeks final payment for legal services rendered in
connection with the trial of this matter and the filing of
certain post trial motions. Your approval is being sought for
final payment of Fine Jacobson's bill in the amount of
$171,199.51.
