Emergency Action of the
City Manager
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt a
resolution approving, ratifying and confirming the emergency
action of the City Manager in declaring sixty-four (64) pieces of
used bedding as category "A" surplus stock, eliminating the
necessity of providing for its storage, and donating the same to
Better Way Of Miami, Inc., a nonprofit organization.
BACKGROUND:
Due to recent evacuation of Fire Station #12 in anticipation of
construction, and the critical lack of storage space in Fire
Department facilities and throughout the City, the emergency need
arose in storing some 64 items of old bedding until legislation
could be processed for its donation to Better Way of Miami, Inc.
Better Way has requested its use in conjunction with housing and
treating of Miami's homeless and indigent addicts and alcoholics.

Dear Chief:
I am writing to request donation of any usable beds, kitchen
equipment, furniture or other things you might have available which
we might use here at Better Way. As you know we are a seriously
under funded 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose sole mission
is to house and treat Miami's homeless and indigent addicts and
alcoholics.
Please let us know when, as and if any of these items might be
picked up and we would be happy to do so. We will provide
appropriate donation forms as requested.
We have not seen you for quite some time and hope things are
going well for you and your department. Please feel free to stop
by and pay us a visit whenever you get a chance.
Many thanks.
Sincerely,
Beth Lang

ENCLOSURES:
Due to recent evacuation of Fire Station #12 in anticipation of
construction and the critical lack of storage space at all of our
remaining Fire Department facilities, an emergency need has
arisen in storing some 64 items of old bedding until legislation
can be processed for its donation.
Better Way Of Miami, Inc., a non-profit organization whose sole
mission is to house and treat Miami's homeless and indigent
addicts and alcoholics has requested these items and with your
approval we would like to immediately make these items available
to that organization for pickup. The donation of used bedding
consists of some 29 mattresses, 27 boxsprings, and 6 frames.
With your approval for this finding of emergency we will process
legislation for the June 9, 1994 City Commission Agenda
recommending approval, ratifying, and confirming this action.
