HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-94-02374 J-94-277 3/29/94 RESOLUTION NO. 94- 237 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A TRANSFER OF SURPLUS EDUCATIONAL EQUIPMENT FROM DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR SUBSEQUENT DONATION TO ST. GEORGE'S COLLEGE, KINGSTON, JAMAICA, AT NO COST TO THE CITY; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO ACCEPT SAID TRANSFER AND TO EFFECT SAID DONATION. WHEREAS, St. George's College, Kingston, Jamaica is in need of educational equipment and Dade County Public Schools has surplus educational equipment; and WHEREAS, Dade County Public Schools can transfer said equipment to the City for donation to St. George's College, at no cost to the City; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends acceptance of this transfer and donation by the City Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF APR 1 4 1994 Resolution No. 94- 237 Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a transfer of surplus educational equipment from Dade County Public Schools for subsequent donation to St. George's College, Kingston, Jamaica, at no cost to the City. Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized`/ to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to accept said transfer and effect said donation. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day Of April 1994. STEPHEN P. I am requesting your assistance in obtaining some well -needed materials for our school. I have been told that Dade Country public School has a warehouse of discarded educational equipment and other materials or use to a school. I would greatly appreciate whatever you could do to assist us in obtaining any of the materials you have at hand that you would be willing to contribute to St. t'3eorge's College. As you are. aware, we are a third world country, and we would be happy to receive some of your equipment that you would consider out -dated. In addition, we might be able to repair or recondition some of the equipment that has fallen into a state of disrepair. If it is at all possible for you to meet with us, we will have a representative come to Miami and look at whatever you are offering. We have alxeady arranged with the Jamaican Government with tegards to the transportation of whatever you can donate to us. Thanking you in advance, I look forward to hearing fronn you.
