HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-11197� a J-94-909 10/31/94 - ORDINANCE No 11197 AN EMERGEWCY ORDINANCE ESTABLISFIING INITIAL RESOURCES AND INITIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR A SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED "VIOLENT STREET CRIMES TASK FORCE" AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $17,643 FROM THE U.S. DEPART!= OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROSRAMB, AND TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT; CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department continues to investigate violent street crimes perpetrated against residents and tourists of our City; 0 WHEREAS, there is a need to target violent crimes and offenders; and wHEREAS, the U.S. Deparmwnt of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, has approved the award of $17,643 toward the payment of overtime, purchase of equipment, and specific expenses; and WHEREAS, matching funds from the City of Miami in the amount of $5,882 will be required to accomplish these investigations; and WMREA.S, any purchases would have to ccanply with applicable city code purchasing requirements; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CC M IISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. 11197 Section 2. The following Special Revenue Fund is hereby established and resources are hereby appropriated as described herein: FLM TITLE: VIOLENT STREET CRIMES TASK FORCE PROTECT RESOURCES: U.S. Department of Justice $17,643 City of Miami $ 5,882 APPROPRIATIONS: Personnel Overtime $13,008 g Office Equipment $ 31000 .Specific Expenses $ 7,525 Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the grant as set forth in the Preamble to this Ordinance and to enter into the necessary contract(s) and/or agreerent(s), in a forth acceptable to the City Attorney,i/ for the acceptance of the aforesaid monies for the ccmpensation of personnel, and other related costs. Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 5. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the retraining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affect -red. Section 6. SUBJECT: Ordinance Establishing a f` Special Revenue Fund I FROM : CC, s ageio REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: RECONDATION: It is, respectfully recommended that an Emergency Ordinance establishing a Special Revenue Fund entitled: "Violent Street Crimes Task Force Project" accepting a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, in the amount of $17,643.00 and appropriating funds for the operation of same, be adopted. BACKGROUND: The Miami Police Department is continuing its efforts in combatting violent crimes and apprehending violent offenders. The Police Department has been offered assistance in this endeavor from the federal government, through a Violent Street Crimes Task Force Program Grant. The grant provides additional funding for the City of Miami Police Department to target violent crimes and offenders. This specific grant is being administered by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, in conjunction with the. Miami Police Department's Street Crimes Unit. U.S. Department of Justice funds total $17,643 and matching funds in the amount of $5,882.00 are required by the City. The total budget will be $23,525.
