As we have discussed in the past, I am the coordinator
of the South Grove Safe Neighborhood Association, which is a
group of homeowners in south Coconut Grove that are attempting to
create a special tax district in the south grove to hire off -duty
police officers to patrol our streets. We are proposing that the
district be created pursuant to Florida Statute 163.511, which
requires an ordinance from the municipality and a referendum in
the district.
I hereby formally request that we be placed on the City
Commission agenda for the December 1, 1994 meeting. A draft of
the proposed ordinance and district boundaries is attached
hereto. We are currently conducting, with the assistance of your
office, a survey of homes in the proposed district and should
have those results by that time. We have also met with each of
the commissioners and are attempting to meet with the Mayor and
the City Manager prior to that date.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding
the foregoing. Thank you for your consideration and assistance.
