RESOLUTION NO.9 J - 827
A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $4,500 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND
ACCOUNTS, IN SUPPORT OF THE CARIBBEAN
AMERICAS BUSINESS NETWORK (CABNET) ANNUAL
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 30 THROUGH
DECEMBER 1, 1995 IN THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA; CONDITIONING SAID ALLOCATION UPON
COMPLIANCE WITH ANY CONDITIONS AND
LIMITATIONS AS MAY BE PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY
OF MIAMI.
WHEREAS, the Caribbean Americas Business Network (Cabnet)
has requested the City Commission's support in connection with
its annual conference, to be held on November 30 through
December 1, 1995, in the City of Miami, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to give CARNET its
support and to urge the International Trade Board, the Downtown
Development Authority and the Greater Miami Host Committee to
also give CARNET their support;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.

Section 2. An amount not to exceed $4,500 is hereby
allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, in support of the
Caribbean Americas Business Network (CARNET) Annual Conference,
to be held November 30 through December 1, 3.995, in the City of
Miami, Florida.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

I would like to bring up as an emergency pocket item at the November 16, 1995 City
Commission meeting a request by Ms. Sharon A. Reid, President of the Caribbean
Americas Business Network (CABNET). Ms. Reid would like to request funding of
$15,000.00 for their annual operation.

Dear Commissioner Gort:
Tom extremely grateful to you and all the Commissioners for your continue confidence and
support on the efforts of the Caribbean Americas Business Network. The organi7uation is
in need of financial assistance, and 1 am asking for your help again.
As we had discussed briefly, I ant asking for your assistance in the following areas:
1. The upcoming Annual Confe;rmcc, CABNET, '95 is scheduled for November 30
thru Dec -ember 1, at the lnterContinental Hotel/Mimni. We are asking for the City's
support of this event in the form of a sponsorship for the amount of S4,500.00. We are
asking that you write a letter to the City Managcr requestutb this on our behalf.
2. On November lb, at the monthly Commissioners' meeting, can you, please call us
under a pocket item for presentation to the Board regarding the funding request for
S15,000 for the. annual operation of the Caribbean Mieficas Business Network.
Speeiflcaby, we have received confirniation from 16 Prime hiinistcrs offices of the
Caribbean for 1996, in an effort for them to present alliance and partnership strategies on
international comncrUe between the Caribbcan and South FloricU This grant wilt assist
the financial resspo sibilitics for CABNI TT, in 1996.
