A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $20,000.00 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF MIAMI COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN (MCSW) FOR THE (A) INSTALLATION OF AN INSCRIBED PLAQUE AS TESTIMONIAL TO THE ACHIEVEMENT'S OF MIAMI WOMEN, AND (B) ERECTION OF A STATUE OR MONUMENT OF JULIA TUTTLE, IN CONNECTION WITH THE WOMEN'S CENTENNIAL HALL OF FAME - IN JULIA'S FOOTSTEPS CELEBRATION TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI'S 100TH BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATION, SAID ALLOCATION CONDITIONED UPON THE MCSW COMPLYING WITH ALL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS AS MAY BE PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. An amount not to exceed $20,000.00, in support of the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) is hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts for the (A) installation of an inscribed plaque as testimonial to the achievements of Miami women, and (B) erection of a statue or monument of Julia Tuttle, in connection with The Women's Centennial Hall of Fame - In Julia's Footsteps celebration to be held in conjunction with the City of Miami's 100th birthday commemoration, said allocation conditioned upon the MCSW complying with all conditions and limitations as may be prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. As a major event of the City of Miami's celebration of its 100th Birthday through MIAMI CENTENNIAL '96, the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women plans to honor Miami women pioneers -the "firsts"- the pathfinders who blazed a trail for future generations - in a MIAMI CENTENNIAL '96 WOMEN'S HALL OF FAME ... IN JULIA'S FOOTSTEPS! The WOMEN'S HALL OF FAME will serve as an educational model that offers a history of the City of Miami as seen through the accomplishmento of the ,women who followed in the footsteps of Julia Tuttle. Their names will be inscribed on a plaque in Miami City Hall as a testimonial of the enduring value of the achievements of the women of Miami. This plaque will be unveiled on July 12, 1996, at 6PM, during a reception that will include City officials, descendants and family of the honorees, and over 250 women from across the nation who are delegates to the Annual Convention of the National Association of Commissions for Women which will be meeting here. The second part of the project will be the creation, selection and dedication of a statue/monument of Julia Tuttle. The committee hopes to place this monument along the Miami River, near Julia Tuttle's original homestead on the grounds of the City's Miami Riverside Center. There will be a competition of local artists overseen by the Art in Public Places Trust. This project has been sanctioned by MIAMI CENTENNIAL 196 as an official event. %t bas, been approved by`_CENTENNIAL Cahir Vicd�-Mayor Plummer and,- by,, Iayor Clark. who earmarked $20,000 for its budget. The MCSW is fortunate to have a prominent Advisory Committee that includes our local historian Arva Moore Parks, Black Archives Founder and Director Dorothy Fields, and Art in Public Places Director. Vivian Donnell Rodriguez. We ask that you put the MIAMI CENTENNIAL '96 WOMEN'S HALL OF FAME... IN JULIA'S FOOTSTEPS on the next City Commission meeting agenda for official approval of the project and the site location so our plans can get underway. Thank you so much!
