HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-95-0537RESOLUTION NO. 9 5— 537 A RESOLUTION, AFTER A DULY ADVERTISED PUBLIC HEARING, AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $80,000.00, IN THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AND HARRISON CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION, DATED MAY 19, 1994, FOR THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ENTITLED "NEW FIRE STATION NO. 12 (SECOND BIDDING), PROJECT 8-2990"; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, FOR SAID INCREASE, FROM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 313239, APPROPRIATED BY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS ORDINANCE NO. 11205, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, a contract, dated May 19, 1994, exists between the City of Miami, Florida, and Harrison Construction Corporation for the construction of the Capital Improvement Project entitled "New Fire Station No. 12 (Second Bidding), Project B-299011; and WHEREAS, said contract was authorized pursuant to Resolution No. 94-113, adopted February 17, 1994, and funds were appropriated for said project by Capital Improvements Ordinance No. 11205, Project No. 313239; and WHEREAS, an increase, in an amount not to exceed $80,000, in the contract (from $1,578,289.00 to $1,658,289.00), is necessary to cover the costs of work required as a result of unforeseen conditions such as asbestos removal,. utility relocations and changes due to new Building Code requirements; and .CITY COMMZSSIO.N MEETING OF J U L 1 3 1995 9s_lutio,53 7 WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works and the City Manager recommend the increase in said contract to cover the additional costs; and WHEREAS, funds to cover the increase are available for said project, pursuant to Ordinance No. adopted NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. After a duly advertised public hearing, an increase, in an amount not to exceed $80,000.00, in the contract between the City of Miami, Florida, and Harrison Construction Corporation, dated May 19, 1994, for the Capital Improvement Project entitled "New Fire Station No. 12 (Second Bidding), Project B-299011, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from Capital Improvement Project No. 313239, as appropriated by Capital Improvements Ordinance No. 11205, as amended Section 3. BACKGROUND The City Commission awarded a contract under CIP Project W., 313239 to Harrison Construction Corporation for the constructiu• of New Fire Station No. 12 in the amount of $1,578,289.OD o, February 17, 1994. The new Firer SLdLion No. 12 project was bid out twice with tight budget including a relatively small constructio contingency (i.p., dash allowance) for a project which involve the demolition of the existing fire station and the construcito, of a larger and better equipped new Fire Station No. 12. Th-. contingency in the construction contract has been exhausted anr, additional funds are needed to pay for• extra wurk required fo-, the project. The extra work includes unforeseen conditions suc►- as asbestos removal in the old fire station, relocation o+ existing on -site utilities, changes due to new building cod% requirements, and plan revisions required during construction. The Public Works Department has identified funds available in th Fiscal Ynar 14g4.-95 budget in the amount of $80,000.00 which cal be allocated to the New Fire Station No. 12 (Second Bidding.
