A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF SAFETY
EQUIPMENT CO. FOR THE FURNISHING OF
FIREFIGHTER PBI VENTILATING HOODS, FOR THE
DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE AT A TOTAL PROPOSED
AMOUNT OF $12,610.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS
THEREFOR FROM ACCOUNT CODE NO. 280601-840;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE
CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE
ORDER FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were
received March 29, 1995 for the furnishing of PBI Ventilating
Hoods for the Department of Fire -Rescue; and
WHEREAS, invitations for Bid No. 94-95-090 were mailed to
thirteen (13) potential bidders and one (1) bid was received; and
WHEREAS this equipment will be used by the City firefighters
as additional protection against the extreme heat encountered
during fire fighting operations; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department
of Fire -Rescue, recommend that the bid received from Satety
Equipment Co. be accepted as the only responsive and responsible
bid; 'and
WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available from Account
Code No. 280601-840; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The March 29, 1995 bid of Safety Equipment Co.
for the furnishing of PBI Ventilating Hoods at a total proposed
amount of $12,610.00, is hereby accepted, with funds therefor
hereby allocated from Account Code No. 280601-840.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order
for this equipment.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.

It is recommended that an Award of Bid is made, and that a
Resolution is passed, permitting the City of Miami Fire -Rescue
Department to purchase six hundred fifty (650) Firefighter's FBI
Hoods from Safety Equipment Co., a non-local/non-minority owned
vendor located at 10106 USA Today Way, Miramar, FL 33025, in the
amount of $12,610.00, with funds allocated from the Department
of Fire -Rescue FY '95 Account Code No.: 280601-840.
BACKGROUND
Structural Firefighting is one of the most hazardous occupations
in America. The requested garment will be used by the City of
Miami Firefighters as additional protection against the extreme
heat encountered during Firefighting operations.

Sealed bids will be received by the City Clerk at her office located at City Hall, 3500 Pan
American Drive, Miami, Florida 33133 not later than 10:30 a.m. March 29.1995 for the
furnishing of approximately Six Hundred Fifty (650) Firefighters Ventilating PBl Hoods,
Model #VFC-PBI for the Department of Fire -Rescue.
Bids submitted past such deadline and/or submitted to any other location or office shall
be deemed non -responsive and will be rejected.
Ordinance No. 10062, as amended, established a goal of awarding 51 % of the City's total
dollar volume of all expenditures for all good and services to Black, Hispanic and
Women Minority Business Enterprises on an equal basis.
Minority and women vendors who are interested in submitting bids and who are not
registered with the City as minority or women vendors are advised to contact the City
Procurement Office located at 1390 Northwest 20th Street, 2nd Floor, (305) 575-5174.
Section 18-52.1(h) of the City Code, as amended, states that the City Commission may
offer to a responsible and responsive local bidder, whose primary office is located in the
City of Miami, the opportunity of accepting a bid at the low bid amount, if the original
bid amount submitted by the local vendor does not exceed 110 percent of the lowest other
responsible and responsive bidder.
The City reserves the right to request copies of the occupational license, professional
and/or trade licenses, corporate chart and tax return and any other documents to verify the
location of the firm's primary office.
All vendors whose primary office is located within the City of Miami must provide a
copy of their City Occupational License with their bids.

Office, 1390 Northwest 20th Street, 2nd Floor, telephone (305) 575-5174.
The C#y Manager may reject all bids and readvertise.
