HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-95-0427J-95-516 5/25/95 RESOLUTION NO, f A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF DEMOLITION MASTERS FOR THE DEMOLITION OF ONE (1) TWO-STORY STRUCTURE LOCATED AT 2136 N.W. 1ST AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AT A TOTAL COST OF $49,720, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING, BUILDING AND ZONING; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT DEMOLITION FUND, INDEX CODE NO. 455017, PROJECT NO. 799206; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS SERVICE. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 24, 1995 for the demolition of one (1) two-story structure, located at 2136 N.W. 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida, for the Department of Planning, Building and Zoning; and WHEREAS, invitations for Bid No. 94-95-149 were mailed to forty-four (44) potential bidders and seven (7) bids were received; and WHEREAS, the Department of Planning, Building and Zoning has determined that this building is vacant, unsecured and is harboring vagrants, and in some instances the structure has been identified as a source of criminal activity; and WHEREAS, it poses a threat to firefighters and police officers responding to frequent calls from concerned property owners; and CITY co=sM= NEEVING OF, MAY 2 5 1995 hijWution No. 95` 42 !1y i ,t,� WHEREAS, bids for said services were received by the City Clerk on May 24, 1995, with the low bid submitted by Demolition Masters in the amount of $49,720 for the demolition of the above described structure; and WHEREAS, funds for said services are available in the Community Development Block Grant Demolition Fund, Index Code No. 455017, Project No. 799206; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The bid submitted by Demolition Masters for the demolition of one (1) two-story structure, located at 2136 N.W. 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida, for a total amount of $49,720, for the Department of Planning, Building and Zoning is hereby accepted, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Community Development Block Grant Demolition Fund, Index Code No. 455017, Project No. 799206 Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order for this service. Section 4. RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission pass the attached resolution accepting the bid of Demolition Masters, a Hispanic/local firm, for the demolition of one (1) two-story structure for the Department of Planning, Building and Zoning for a total proposed amount of $49,720. Funding is available from the Community Development Block Grant Demolition Fund. BACKGROUND The Department of Planning, Building and Zoning has analyzed bids received pursuant to Bid No. 94-95-149, and recommends the execution of the attached resolution for award of this demolition service; this is needed to rid the City of a building which has become an eyesore, with health and safety problems. It Is vacant, unsecured and is harboring vagrants, and in some instances the structure has been identified as a source of criminal activity. This along with the fact is poses a threat to firefighters and police officers responding to frequent calls from concerned property owners, justifies the need for its removal. MINORITY REPRESENTATION: Bids were sent to forty-four (44) vendors, including nine (9) blacks, five (5) females, and twenty- four (24) Hispanics.
