ENCLOSURES:
At the Commission meeting of May 1 st, no action was taken in connection with agenda item 12
(appointing/confirming individuals as members of the Board of Trustees of the City of Miami
General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' [GESE] Retirement Trust). Pending still is the
confirmation of the selection of the American Federation of Labor - and Congress of Industrial
Organizations (AFL-CIO) Laborers' International Union of North America [LIUNA] bargaining unit
representative, Mr. James Reid.
In connection with the other pending appointment, AFL-CIO LIUNA is to come back with a list of
six names from which the City Commission shall select an individual to fill present vacant seat
formerly filled by T. Willard Fair. Mr. Fair was appointed to the Civil Service Board which

City of Miami Code Section 40-227 provides for the appointment of a nine member board of
trustees to administer and manage the retirement plan known as the "City of Miami General
Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust." Of these nine members, one is to be
selected by the City Manager, two by the general employees (AFSCME bargaining unit), two by
the sanitation employees (AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A. bargaining unit), and four independent trustees
are to be selected by the City Commission (two from a list of six persons submitted by AFSCME
and two from a list of six persons submitted by AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A.).
Ms. Diane Ragone, President of the AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A. has submitted the following list of six
names for consideration to fill the vacancy created by Mr. T. Willard Fair's resignation:
1.
Robert Mendito
2.
Albert Guffanti
3.
Phillip Finno
4.
Joseph Jacob
5.
Andrew Lane
6.
Gus Rivera
The new appointee will serve a term of two years commencing on May 25, 1995 through May
24, 1997.
