HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-95-0416J-95-310 5/18/95 RESOLUTION NO. 9 5- 416 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING AN INDIVIDUAL AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GENERAL EMPLOYEE'S AND SANITATION EMPLOYEE'S RETIREMENT TRUST FOR A TERM AS DESIGNATED HEREIN; FURTHER, CONFIRMING THE SELECTION OF AN INDIVIDUAL BY THE LIUNA BARGAINING UNIT, AS A MEMBER OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GENERAL EMPLOYEE'S AND SANITATION EMPLOYEE'S RETIREMENT TRUST, FOR A TERM AS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the term of T. Willard Fair, an appointee of the City Commission to the City of Miami General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust and selected from a list proffered by the Sanitation Employees' Association ("SEA") expired on November 30, 1994; and WHEREAS, the term of Peter Joffre, one of the Sanitation Employees' Association ("SEA") bargaining unit's appointments, expired on November 30, 1994; and WHEREAS, the Laborers' International Union of North America, Local 800, AFL-CIO ("LIUNA"), the successor labor organization to the SEA, has selected James Reid as its appointee to said Trust Board, subject to City Commission confirmation, to replace the expired term of Peter Joffre; CITY COMMISSION YLEETIRG OF MAY 2 5 1995 Resolution No. 95- 416 k, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following individual is hereby appointed as a member of the City of Miami General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust Board of Trustees to serve a term of office expiring on May 24, 1997: APPOINTEE Robert Mendito Section 3. The following individual, selected by the LIUNA bargaining unit, is hereby confirmed as a member of the General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust for a term of office expiring on May 24, 1997: James Reid Section .4. Pending still is the confirmation of the selection of the American Federation of Labor - and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Laborers' International Union of North America [LIUNA] bargaining unit representative, Mr. James Reid. In connection with the other pending appointment, AFL-CIO LIUNA is to come back with a list of six names from which the City Commission shall select an individual to fill present vacant seat formerly filled by T. Willard Fair. Mr. Fair was appointed to the Civil Service Board which prevents him from serving on the GESE Retirement Trust. Mr. Fair has since resigned from the GESE Retirement Trust upon being appointed to the Civil Service Board. City of Miami Code Section 40-227 provides for the appointment of a nine member board of trustees to administer and manage the retirement plan known as the "City of Miami General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust." Of these nine members, one is to be selected by the City Manager, two by the general employees (AFSCME bargaining unit), two by the sanitation employees (AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A. bargaining unit), and four independent trustees are to be selected by the City Commission (two from a list of six persons submitted by AFSCME and two from a list of six persons submitted by AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A.). Ms. Diane Ragone, President of the AFL-CIO L.I.U.N.A. has submitted the following list of six names for consideration to fill the vacancy created by Mr. T. Willard Fair's resignation: 1. Robert Mendito 2. Albert Guffanti 3. Phillip Finno 4. Joseph Jacob 5. Andrew Lane 6.
