HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-95-0353J-95-398 i 5/10/95 RESOLUTION NO. 9 5- 3 J 3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOCATE $50,000 IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT j BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) FUNDS FROM THE 18TH YEAR CDBG LITTLE HAITI RESERVE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FUNDS TO ASSIST THE CENTER FOR HAITIAN STUDIES, INC., (C.H.S.) WITH THE RENOVATION OF THE CENTER FOR HAITIAN STUDIES i BUILDING, LOCATED IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, } FLORIDA; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH C.H.S. FOR THIS PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous of providing financial assistance toward the renovation of the "Center for Haitian Studies Building" located at 8325 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, funds, in the amount of $50,000, have been s identified and are available from unexpended 18th Year CDBG Program funds under the project entitled "Little Haiti Reserve"; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the allocation of the aforementioned CDBG Program funds to assist the Center for Haitian Studies, Inc., (C.H.S.), a not -for -profit organization, with the renovation of the Center for Haitian Studies Building; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF MA`1 1 1 199 Resolution No. 95- 353 thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to allocate $50,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds from the Little Haiti Reserve Project, Code No. 701608 (18th Year), for the purpose of providing funds to assist the Center for Haitian Studies, Inc., (C.H.S.), with the renovation of the Center for Haitian Studies Building, located in the City of Miami, Florida. Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized) to execute an agreement, in a form acceptable with the City Attorney, with C.H.S. for this purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this llth day of May 1995. ASTE HEN P. Funds j for the Center for Haitian j Studies, Inc. --Building FROM Cesa io REFERENCES: Renovation city ger ENCLOSURES: I i RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution, authorizing the City Manager to allocate $50,000.00 in unexpended Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funds, for the purpose of funding the renovation of the Center for Haitian Studies building, located at 8325 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Litle Haiti in the City of Miami. BACKGROUND The Department of Community Development N.E.T. recommends ratification of the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to allocate $50,000.00 in unexpended C.D.B.G. Program funds from the Little Haiti Reserve. The renovation of the building facility will allow the Center for Haitian Studies, Inc., a non-profit agency, to provide a wide range of services 1 such as health care, food and transportation vouchers, and education and counseling on health issues to hundreds of Haitian families in Little Haiti. 95-- 353
