BACKGROUND The City currently has a solid waste disposal agreement with Wheelabrator South Broward, Inc. (Wheelabrator) that expires on September 30, 1995. The City's contract for future waste disposal services with Bedminster Seacor Services Miami Corporation (Bedminster/SSI) no later than 1998. It would be beneficial to the City to enter into a multi -year agreement for solid waste disposal services commencing on October 1, 1995 at a fixed tonnage fee, that would serve as a backup to Bedminster/SSI agreement, in the event Bedminster/SSI does not come on line as set forth in the Bedminster/SSI agreement. As a result, the Administration has contacted various solid waste disposal service providers to determine the availability and price for waste disposal services. The Administration has determined that the City would experience substantial economic savings by disposing of the City's solid waste at the designated transfer site or comparable location (i.e. Reuters Recycling Facility in Pembroke Pines) for ultimate disposal at the Okeechobee County's regional landfill facility, operated by Chambers Waste Systems of Florida, Inc. (Chambers) a private waste disposal company, as compared to the present disposal agreement with Wheelabrator. b5- 217 6 /
