Since 1972, the Patriarch Inc. Lucien T, Engelmajer Association has been serving
substance abusers and their families without any discrimination wether it be sexual,
religious, racial, social status, or physical state.
The Association alms at giving back hope to as many as possible of those affected
by substance abuse, its corollaries, Aids and associated diseases. Starting with young
people disorientated, physically diminished, often immuno deftclent, disgusted with
themselves and life, it aims at returning to society free, proud, responsible and jointly
liable beings that have refound their dignity,
The therapy, with exceptionally positive results, is Wmated by former substance
abusers applying principles diametrically opposed to those, applied everyday by drug
users. 'l'he fatalist conception of the newcomer is soon replacedl by an appetite for lito
that he wants to share with others.
-- Admission: a ffienclly talk takes place and not one of anger which is often his
daily ufliverse. A community life is proposed to overcome his isolation.
-- Detoxification/withdrawal is composod of herbal teas, massages, baths,
long walks, and a natural approach which separates him from his artificial
world. lie is accompanied 24 hours a day by another person. Silence is
replaced by dialogue. The newcomer, at First introverted, disenvars the
existence of others.
—The person recently detoxed will soon be entrusted a newcomer. His
competence in substance abuse is indisputable. Thus, the person that was
mistrusted becomes someone to trust. He who was nothing but selfi ness
becomes aware of his ability to help in order to to holped,
--- The choice of centre fnr training and social reinstatement depends on the
persona aspirations and his physical state. The problem of substance abuse is
everywhow and the Patriarch Inc, offaia 250 centres around the world. Foaming,
construction, administration, data-processing, printing, art, are some of the many
vocational trades, These give the means and the space where his talents can be
expressed. Ho who felt ignored by all can be noticed thanks to his own abilities
within a training activity, preparing for his future and social reirwateme .8 5
