HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-95-0088J-95-239 2/9/95 RESOLUTION NO. 9 88 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE NOMINATION OF CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS TO BE RECIPIENTS OF ONE- YEAR, HALF -TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED UNDER THE CITY OF MIAMI SPONSORED UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, APPROVED BY RESOLUTION NO. 89-1152, ADOPTED DECEMBER 14, 1989, AND RESOLUTION NO. 91-909, ADOPTED DECEMBER 5, 1991. WHEREAS, the City of Miami and the University of Miami entered into a commitment, pursuant to Resolution No. 89-1152, adopted December 14, 1989, to award 120 one-year, half -tuition scholarships to certain eligible individuals; and WHEREAS, the criteria and procedures for said eligibility were established by Resolution No. 91-909, adopted December 5, 1991; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. The following nominees meet the scholarship eligibility criteria as established in Resolution 91-909, adopted December 5, 1991, and are hereby accepted as the recipients of one-year, half -tuition scholarships to the University of Miami for the Fall Semester 1995 and Spring Semester 1996: Jorge Davalos Miguel Angel Gimenez Eva-Florenoe Goyette Ivania Jimenez Mario Junco Reinaldo Ortiz Lorena Vollrath-Bueno Section 3. Orehovec Vice Provost and Dean of Enrollments RE: City of Miami Sponsored University of Miami Scholarship Program Nomination and award of scholarships for the 1995-96 academic year The University of Miami has complied with the criteria and procedures established.by Resolution No..91-909, adopted 5 December 1991, as follows: -- We distributed application packets to all Dade County public' schools and high school CAP advisors for their use in submitting names of eligible students.' -- On October 13, 1994, I mailed application packets to you for your use in submitting names of high school students. -- We reviewed the list of submitted eligible students to verify compliance with the criteria established by the Resolution as follows: 1. The student shall be admitted by the University of Miami according to its admissions policies; 2. The student shall demonstrate financial need according to the Congressional Method for determining financial aid; and 3. The student shall be a bonafide resident of the City of Miami. I submit the list of qualified nominees (Attachment A) for your final review and determination for award of scholarship(s) at the February 9, 1995, City of Miami Commission meeting. If you know of a high school senior whose name you want to submit for the City of Miami Scholarship, please give him or her one of the enclosed application packets. The resolution further states that "Names of eligible students may be submitted by Dade County School Board College Admissions Program Advisors (CAP)" (Section 1.A.1). In accord with this section, we are distributing application packets to all Dade County public schools and high school CAP advisors for their use in submitting names of eligible students.
