ANP-MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION
FROM

DATE : December 20, 1994 FILE :
SUBJECT ; Commission on the Status of
Women
REFERENCES:
ENCLOSURES: (4 pages)
There are presently two vacancies on the Commission on the Status of Women which need to
be filled (seats previously occupied by Bernadette Morris and Laura Perez). Ms. Morris has
tendered her resignation on the Commission (see letter attached). Ms. Perez has been absent
from official meetings of the Commission for three consecutive times, which pursuant to Code
Section 2-430, automatically removes said member.
At the meeting of July 14, 1994, the City Commission approved a slate of 15 names which was
recommended at that time by Ms. Betty Kaynor, Coordinator for the Commission on the Status
of Women. Both Ms. Morris and Ms. Perez were appointments made at large by the full City
Commission through adoption of Resolution 94-492.
By copy of this memorandum we are requesting the agenda office to place appointment by the
City Commission of two new members to fill present vacancies on the Commission.
Pursuant to Resolution 93-419, the membership of the Commission on the Status of Women
"should reflect the racial, ethnic, economic and social diversity of the residents of the City of
Miami."
Attached please find a list of the Commission's current membership.

Miami, Huride
Dear Rosario and Members of the Commission:
It is with deepest regret that I inform you of my plans to resign, effective immediately,
from the City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women.
Due to the vast amount of projects, particularly in the fall and spring term on the
Campus, it is very difficult for me to faithfully attend the required monthly meetings.
feel that persons involved with any project on a voluntary basis must show their
commitment in attendance and in their actions, and I sincerely do not feel that I can
do that at this present time.
I hope by now that you all know of my commitment and love to each of you, and my
sincere desire for the commission to move and succeed in all of its actions. I will
continue to work in this capacity on behalf of the Commission, and provide what
support I can in the realm of publicity and promotions, and educational opportunities.
Thank you for providing me with an opportunity to work with each of you. Best
wishes for a great year!

Dear Laura:
I am writing on behalf of the entire Commission on the Status of Women
to tell you how very sorry we are that you will be unable to continue
as a member of the Commission. We do so understand the press of your
practice that has made it impossible to attend our monthly meetings
and we can only wish you the greatest success in all your ventures.
We have sent this information to the City of Miami Clerk and I believe
you will be receiving some kind of notification from them, also. We do
so hope that you will keep in touch with us and our members for we
are grateful to you for the time and effort you put into our various
programs and projects during your term with us.
Again, we are so sorry to lose you and we wish you the very, very
best in the future.
Have a wonderful holiday season!
