RESOLUTION NO.9 5 " 5
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE "SEVENTH
PERIOD", A PRODUCTION SERIES BY THE GUSMAN CENTER FOR
THE PERFORMING ARTS, AND ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $17,000, FROM THE LAW
ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN
CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH
FLORIDA STATE STATUTE, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the
expenditure of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered
normal operating expenses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami, supports those groups dedicated to assisting
the children of our community in becoming responsible and productive citizens;
and
WHEREAS, Gusman Center for the Performing Arts ("the Center") proposes
to reach 20,000 young people with its production entitled "Seventh Period";
and
WHEREAS, the Center wishes to target at -risk youth; and
WHEREAS, the Center will address such topics as peer pressure, self-
esteem, drugs, violence, isolation and boredom; and
WHEREAS, the Center is an effective medium for the transmission of this
information; and
WHEREAS, the students and teachers will be prepared for upcoming
performances with special teaching material; and
WHEREAS, the Center will conduct post -performance classroom visits; and

WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution
and has certified that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State
Statute 932.7055, as amended; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover the necessary expenses required for this program
are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this
Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as
if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The funding of the "Seventh Period", a production series by
the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts is hereby authorized, with funds
therefor hereby allocated, in an amount not to exceed $17,000, from the City
of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, Index Code 029002-
247, such expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police as
complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall became effective immediately upon its
adoption.

The Police Department supports the efforts of those groups
responsible for, and dedicated to, improving the quality of life
for the children in our community. The "Seventh Period", a
production series developed by the Gusman Center for the
Performing Arts, is expected to reach 20,000 students. The
center wishes to target at -risk youth. Issues that affect at -
risk youth, such as peer pressure, self-esteem, drugs, violence,
isolation and boredom, will be addressed directly through the
theater and other related activities. Students and teachers will
be prepared for upcoming performances with special teaching
materials. The Center will conduct post -performance classroom
visits.

Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, for the sponsorship of the
"Seventh Period", a production by the Gusman Center for the
Performing Arts, in an amount not to exceed $17,000, complies
with the provisions of Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes.
