Honorable Mr. Clark: This morning, while watching the City Commission meeting on T.V., I heard you denounce. some persons, including "former opponents", who have been circulating rumors that you were going to resign due to the state of your health during the course of today's meeting. As a former political opponent, I feel compelled to advise you that I have not, in the past, and will not in the future, comment on the state of your health or any other matter pertaining to your ability to properly discharge the duties of your office. As a matter of fact, on November 29, 1995, while participating in a radio talk show, I was asked by a Listener if I had plans. to run for Mayor of the City of Miami in view of your "eminent resignation" due to illness. My reply was clear and unequivocal; I thought it was in poor taste to bring up such a distasteful suggestion and went on to say that the election for Mayor of the City of Miami is in 1997 and extended my sincere wishes to you and your fa- mily for your speedy recovery. I do hereby reiterate that I wish you a speedy recovery. By this means I join you on the record in denouncing such despicable conduct and call for the absolute eessation of further comments upon the state of your health an r ability to ~arry~n your mayoral duties as a direct result thereof.
