I am writing to you to share a problem that we are confronted with at the St.
John Community Development Corporation. We need your support in
BOARD OF DIRECTORS: coming to a resolution.
Hattie Atkinson Our problem centers around FY 1995296 CDBG funding. The City of Miami
Robert Baker
Donald F. Benjamin, AICP was gracious enough to fund out, housing programmatic component at -
Batha W. Cason $90,000 for FY 1994 '95. However, the City staff has recommended
Frank.lin Clark lowering our funding level back to $50,000 for FY 1995296. We are thankful
Alfred Finney
Johnnie L Ring and appreciative for the continued support, but, at this point in time, in order
Lyn Morrison for our organization to regain the momentum in implementing two major new
Andrew Robinson construction projects that are currently on the drawing board, we need to
David Robinson. U, Esq.
Rev. John 1L Taylor remain at the $90 000 funding level for FY 1995-96.
Claude Tripp
Rev. Charles E. Uptgrow Additionally, St. John CDC is negotiating the possibility of acquiring sixty-six
Dorothy B. Walker
Inez Wilcox existing apartment units from one owner and one hundred eighty-two units
Mary Louise Williams from another owner. All these units -are located in the Overtown area. The
Armle R. Neaman manner in which we plan to improve these apartments for low and moderate
Governor's Appointee income peoples is similar to the manner in which we manage the St. John
Apartment complex.
The loss of $40,000 from the City would certainly create a*negative impact
on our efforts to provide safe decent housing for the residents of Overtown
and those planning to move to Overtown.
In view of what has been stated, the Commission will certainly be helpful by
allowing this matter to be placed on the Agenda as- a pocket item for
additional discussion at your July 13 meeting.
