Sunny Iiurst,who broadcast the ballgames at the time, had John Mobley night on his birthday,7/8/71,wich was a total suprise.They stopped the game at the bottom of the 3rd inningand had all the players,owners and coaches circle the hone plate and they gave him a trophy and cake.He passed away the next January 10th,1973. You only asked me for 4 or 5 items,however I have included a few extras.There are many more accomplishments he had undertaken thatI have not listed here. You also asked me to name what BLVD"$ or STREETS• I wanted!.to name with"John Mobley*Way" -.I firmly believe that Biscayne BLVD.sbould :be a first consideration for the reasons that he owned property along the boulevard,and I still own to this day.Plus,he and his horse "Buddy" patrolled for years the circle in front of the old Sears building,which is a major city landmark. A good second choice would be NE 2nd Ave ,which was one of his main travelling routes. I want to thank you for time and help on this matter.I hope you understand that if I do not do this for him,nobody is left to do it! Mobley, 67, civic leader and owner of the John Mobley Appliance Co. abd the John Mobley Tire Co., died Wednesday in South Miami Hospital. Mr. Mobley, of 3300' Biscayne Blvd., came to Miami in 1924 from South Carolina, and was instrumen- tal in the formation of Little :•. League baseball in Florida and nationally. He was a former member. of the Dade County School Board. He contributed a horse to start the Miami mounted police detail, and also contributed to the Hun- garian Relief Fund in 1956.
