A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING, IN THE AMOUNT
OF $9,690, FOR COSTS AND EXPENSES INCURRED FOR
RE -ACCREDITATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE BY
THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR LAW
ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, INC. (C.A.L.E.A.); ALLOCATING
FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST
FUND, INDEX CODE NO. 290904-996, PROJECT NO. 690001,
SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE
CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE
STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure
of forfeiture proceeds for law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating
expenses; and
WHEREAS, accreditation of a law enforcement agency assesses compliance with
specific professional standards, designed according to agency size, in order to increase crime
prevention and control capabilities, enhance agency effectiveness and efficiency, improve
cooperation and coordination with other components of the criminal justice system, and
increase citizen and staff confidence in the goals, objectives, policies, and practices of the law
enforcement agency; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Police received its nationally recognized C.A.L.E.A.
accreditation in November, 1995; and
WHEREAS, in order to retain said status, the Department of Police must undergo a
successful re -accreditation every three years; and

WHEREAS, the costs and fees associated with the process must be paid by
December, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has
determined that the expenditure proposed comply with Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution
are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. Funding, in the amount of $9,690, for costs and expenses incurred for
re -accreditation of the Department of Police by the Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (C.A.L.E.A.), is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby
allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Index Code No. 290904-96, Project
No. 690001, such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with
Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution providing funds for the cost, expenses, and fees
incurred during the re -accreditation process of the Department of Police by the Commission of
Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (C.A.L.E.A.), in the amount of $9,690.00.
Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Index Code 290904-996, Project
No. 690001.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Police received its nationally recognized C.A.L.E.A. accreditation in November
1995. The goal of the accreditation process is to improve the delivery of law enforcement services.
In order to retain this status, the Department must undergo a successful re -accreditation process
every three years. The cost and fees associated with the process must be paid by December 1996.
