A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE LITTLE HAVANA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, INC., A FLORIDA NOT - FOR -PROFIT CORPORATION, FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS OF "MA.XIMO GOMEZ PARK", ALSO KNOWN AS ".DOMINO PARK", IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $54,152.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE FISCAL YEAR 1996-1997 BUDGET OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION, AID TO PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS ACCOUNT. WHEREAS, the Little Havana Development Authority, Inc. ("LHDA") , is a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization founded in 1976 to foster, encourage and promote economic development in the City 1 of Miami and more particularly in the area known as "Little Havana"; and WHEREAS, Maximo Gomez Park, more commonly known as Domino Park, located at the corner of Southwest 8th Street and 15th Avenue, Miami, Florida, in the heart of the Little Havana neighborhood, serves the low and moderate income residents and has evolved as a recognizable tourist attraction; and WHEREAS, in the best interest of the Little Havana community, the City of Miami has in the past approved funding for the LHDA to supervise, manage and operate Domino Park, through direct allocations from the Department of Parks and Recreation Operating Budget; and CITY comssm MEETING of Q C T 2 4 1996 Resolution No. yo- Soo WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $69,500.00 were requested by the Little Havana Development Authority, Inc. for Fiscal Year 1996-1997, however, pursuant to Resolution No. 96-733, adopted October 10, 1996, the City Commission directed the Administration to reduce said funding request by fifteen percent, and to only allocate one month's allocation in the amount of $4,923.00 ($69,500.00 - $10,425.00 (15%) _ $59,075.00 _ 12 = $4,923.00); and WHEREAS, it is now necessary to authorize the execution of an agreement with the Little Havana Development Authority, Inc. and to allocate funds for the operation and management of Maximo Gomez Park for the remaining eleven months of the Fiscal Year, ($59,075.00 - $4,923.00 = $54,152.00 -- the balance requested reduced by fifteen percent (15%), less one month's allocation); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. r f i i i 96- Soo �-i Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized1� to execute an agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with the Little Havana Development Authority, Inc., a Florida Not -For -Profit Corporation, for the management and operations of "Maximo Gomez Park", also known as "Domino Park", in an amount not to exceed $54,152.00, with said funds therefor hereby allocated from the Fiscal Year 1996-1997 Budget of the Department , of Parks and Recreation, Aid to Private Organizations Account. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of October 1996.
