Proposed Resolution
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing an increase in the contract between Pino-Fonticiella Construction, Corporation and
the City of Miami for Allapattah-Comstock Park Recreation Building in the amount of
$17,726.58.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Parks and Recreation has determined that it is necessary to increase the
contract dated June 27, 1995 between the City and Pino-Fonticiella Construction Corporation
for additional work related to the construction of the Allapattah-Comstock Park Recreation
Building, B-3248 in the amount of $17,726.58.
The City Commission awarded a contract to Pino-Fonticiella Construction Corporation for the
construction of the Allapattah-Comstock Park Recreation Building, Project No. 331309, in the
amount of $511,949.00 on June 27, 1995. The project consisted of the construction of a new
one story recreation building at Allapattah-Comstock Park, made of concrete piles, concrete unit
masonry, concrete columns, wood trusses and wood decking and sheathing. The work. also
included all the necessary site grading; plumbing, mechanical and electrical work.
Some unexpected conditions and problems were discovered directly related to the severe
deterioration of two (2) existing bridges and the deterioration of the existing asphalt paved
walkway.
It is recommended that the City increase the existing contract with Pino-Fonticiella
Construction Corporation and expeditiously complete the construction of the two (2) bridges
and replace the asphalt walkway as soon as possible. Failure to correct the aforementioned
problems could endanger the health, safety and welfare of our citizens.
Funds for the increase in contract are available from monies already appropriated to the project
in the City's Capital Improvement Appropriation Ordinance, Project No. 331309.
