WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice sealed bids were received July 15, 1996 for the furnishing of a Unitized Microwave Video Surveillance System; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to nineteen (19) potential bidders and one (1) bid was received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available from the Haitian Narcotics Grant, Project No. 110060, Index Code No. 290473-840 for the Department of Police; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend that the bid received from Westinghouse Audio Intelligence Devices, Inc., be accepted as the only i responsible and responsive bidder; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF 0 C T 1 0 1996 Resolution No. 916- 707 1i i Section 1. The bid submitted by Westinghouse Audio Intelligence Devices, Inc., for furnishing of a Unitized Microwave Video Surveillance System in a total proposed amount of $ 10,495.00, for the Department of Police, is hereby accepted, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Haitian Narcotics Grant, Project No. 110060, Index Code No. 290473-840. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order for said acquisition. Section 4. Background - Standard video technology has numerous limitations when dealing with the highly evolved criminals of today. The Unitel 500 Microwave Video Surveillance System combines both video and microwave technology into one package. Video images are remotely transmitted, using microwave, to the receiver unit. The system also features listening capabilities which are transmitted in the same fashion. The Miami Police Department's Special Investigations Section will utilize the system during its undercover operations. The Unitel 500 System is compatible with existing Westinghouse equipment currently in use within the Police Department's Special Investigations Section and best meets their needs.
